Home to around 100,000 residents, the Durham town of Darlington sits on the banks of the River Tees amid miles of beautiful rolling countryside.
The town is currently undergoing an extensive programme of redevelopment entitled 'The Presidential Heart' that has pedestrianised and ultimately rejuvenated Darlington's central shopping district with a raft of modernisations to buildings and public areas.
In terms of open spaces, Darlington has several areas of outstanding parkland, including the massive South Park with its lakes, ancient trees and stunning floral gardens and the popular sculpture-filled West Park.
The town has close ties with the arts generally, and this can be seen in the sheer number of examples of public art and sculpture that are dotted around Darlington, not to mention the huge variety of arts venues and galleries on offer to the discerning visitor.
